Today I had a tutorial with Tara. I explained my idea and told her about the research that I have collected so far. Tara gave me some really good advice, in terms of what to look at next, the pace I should be working at and the amount of research that needs to collected for the next couple of weeks.
For the next 2 weeks, I need to focus on:
- The first ever collaboration that has ever been publicized
- Previous collaborations, whether they have been successful/unsuccessful and why? I need to find interviews, negotiations, articles, images of the collections, ad campaigns, anything that has any relation to previous collaborations. Find as many as possible, the more research into others the better.
- Think about why brands collaborate? what are the benefits for one/both parties, apart from the obvious one being money (although that may be the only reason)
- The marketing/promotional aspect of why collaborations are even successful: look at social media, the way the collaborations are promoted, what 'buzz' is already around the particular brand/designer.
- Grayson Perry - In the Best Possible Taste (television program)
- IKEA - 1996 advert 'chuck out your chintz'
- Printing off different collections from different designers, putting them together (literally), and seeing if they go
- Look at collaborations between different objects rather than just fashion - 2 objects being put together to create one thing
- Other collaborations, for example: Coke x Jean Paul Gautier or Disaronno x Versace or even Moschino loves Disaronno, alcohol and fashion, fashion and art etc.: Elsa Schiaparelli & Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol & Yves Saint Laurent - look at all fashion and art collaborations, how fashion ended up in art museums etc.
- Up and coming trends. For my own look book that I will be creating I want the styling to reflect on the trends that are around now.
